The Center for the Visual & Performing Arts (CVPA) presents the LA Collaboration in a Benefit Concert for the Edith B. Rath Memorial Fund at Sage Granada Park United Methodist Church on Sunday, Mar 20th at 7pm.
Edith B. Rath was a longtime Alhambra resident who was a soprano in the orginal Roger Wagner Chorale, 40 years with Hollywood Presbyterian's choir and 20 years with the Lake Avenue Church Sanctuary Choir in Pasadena. Her father David E. Rath was the manager of the Santa Monica Chamber of Commerce and family member of the Rath Meat Packing Company (5th largest in the US during WWII). Her estate donated the 1915 Mason & Hamlin grand piano to CVPA after her passing in March 2009 which was a wedding present from her father to her mother Edith V. Rath. The piano was fully restored by Sage Granada Park United Methodist Church and will be performed on by concert pianist Dr. Duane Funderburk.
The Los Angeles Collaboration was formed by pianist Duane Funderburk and violinist Alex Russell in 2000. They give approximately 50 performances annually, both in duo recitals and as soloists with orchestra. Their music spans a wide spectrum of styles, including classical, sacred, Broadway, and other American music repertoire. Most distinctive about their perfor-mances is the presentation of their original arrangements and orchestrations. International appearances include performances with the Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra in Yerevan, Armenia and with chamber orchestras in Canada, Korea, Lithuania, Sweden, and Ukraine. Additionally, the duo has performed in Shanghai and Beijing, China and in London, England and recently accepted invitations to give performances in Singapore and in Sydney, Australia. Appearances in the United States in 2008 include presentations and concerts at the Interna-tional Arts Movement Conference and Museum of Biblical Art in New York City.
